The Concept and Birth of the Professional Profile
Like you, I am
a home based Internet Entrepreneur and have been freelancing since 2003. Like
you, I had to learn to market my business. Like you, I had no clue what I was
doing.
I
started exploring Internet Marketing and the thousands of
options available to market online. One commonality seemed to show up time and
time again. Positioning and becoming the expert and go to person in your niche
was imperative.
How to do that
was the question of the day, the week, the month and the year. How could I convince
my potential clients I was the one they wanted to do
business with? This question haunted me for quite awhile.
I used to write resumes and cover letters
that were 95% successful in getting the applicant an
interview. Approximately 75% of those interviews resulted in the applicant
getting hired. I started doing some serious thinking.
When a person is looking to
change careers or jobs, they use a resume and cover letter
to market themselves and their services. How can I relate
this to the entrepreneur? How can an entrepreneur market
themselves to their potential clients using the concept of a
resume?
I thought about this for quite a
while. Some days it was on the back burner, other days it was on the
front burner. At that time, I was in the process of developing my own
niche and trying to decide what exactly it was I wanted to offer.
Have you ever had one of those AHA
moments when the answer miraculously showed up?
That's
what happened here. One day, I suddenly realized the answer
was right in front of me.
By
writing a professional profile, using the concept of a
resume, but much more business oriented, the entrepreneur would have a polished piece of work
that showcases his or her achievements, skills,
products and services and expertise. Adding just enough information about their
personal life, the potential client will begin to relate to the entrepreneur and the know, like and trust factor
will begin to flourish.
I started exploring and researching the
Internet to learn more about Professional Profiles. What I found was
that there are huge numbers of people that use the term professional
profile as in" Read my professional profile" or "Jane Does professional
profile".
I also found that social networking sites love
to use the term 'profile'.
Oddly enough, there isn't much information about what a
professional profile is or how to create a professional profile, much
less how to use it effectively.
On the other hand, there are quite a few
writers or service providers who will write a biography for exorbitant amounts
of money. Although a biography is sort of a professional profile, I see
them as much different.
A biography is a story of where you have
been, it's history.
A professional profile is current events with
a little background added in. It is where you are today, what you are doing now
and why you are doing it.
I found that while these writers offer to
write your biography for you, none teach you to do it yourself.
I also found the pricing for writing a
biography to be more than what I think most small home-based entrepreneurs could
afford. I found the range to be anywhere from $150 all the way up to $450.
How can the small home-based entrepreneur
afford something like that? And what would they do with it once they had it in
their hands?
As a result
of my endless hours of research and research and more research, I
decided it was time I took everything I had learned along with what I
know in my heart to be true and put it to use to help other Internet
Entrepreneurs position themselves as the expert in their niche.
This was
the birth of a new concept, one that I know is going to take marketing
on the Internet to a new dimension for home based Internet
entrepreneurs.
